How to Attract and Find New Listeners for Podcast Programs

from:

How can specialized forums, article directories, customer newsletters, link exchanges, blogs and other marketing methods all be utilized by podcasters looking to increase viewership? Knowing what type of content to submit and where can help podcasters attract new listeners. Here are some easy tips designed to help with marketing.

Specialized forums are great for businesses selling a specific good or service. For example, auto stores can search for auto forums and find their target audiences. The same goes for education, culinary and other areas. Be sure though, when joining a forum to link your podcast in the signature line, as it is not looked on positively in forums to self-promote. Another great forum for all podcasters, in addition to the business’ niche, is electronics’ forums. Whether it is iPods, MP3 players or other media devices capable of receiving a podcast, these potential customers are your greatest asset, as they already have the ability to receive your podcast.

Article directories are great for promoting your business or service online, while at the same time promoting your podcast. Write relevant articles designed to show readers you are an expert on the subject and try to stay informational without sounding “spammy”. Usually a byline is given along with a link to the business’ website. This is a great way to also boost your website higher in the Search Engines, especially if the article directory has a high page rank.

Link exchanges provide a mutually beneficial relationship between two related products or services. Seek websites of interest and verify activity and page rank. To find a good website enter in the product or service you are interested in trading with and the term, “link exchange”. Contact the site’s owner to inquire about link exchanges and/or affiliate programs. This free advertising will help market your podcast and website to a wider audience who, since the product or service is related, will definitely be interested in hearing what your podcast entails.

Blogs for every related purpose should be utilized by the podcaster to achieve a greater audience. Create a blog for the show’s podcast, a blog for your website, and a niche blog appropriate for use in conjunction with your business’ product or service. Be sure to link all of the blogs together and submit to a directory. Repeat the article directory process by expanding blog posts into full-length articles and have them linked back to each individual blog. This same idea can also be used to create articles and submit them to content sites. List the blogs as part of the resources or links section at the end of each article. Links directly to your podcast can be successful and relevant to searchers by creating content on podcasting and linking your podcast’s site directly at the end of the article.

Finding new listeners for your podcast programs is easy, once the hard work of going out there and making yourself known has been completed. The goal is to tap into as many potential avenues for viewership as possible which means becoming socially active, creating interesting content and linking your podcast, blog or business’ website to as many relevant sites as possible.
